Withholding tax in Geneva: your 2026 rate
If you work in Geneva, your employer takes the tax directly out of your salary each month. This calculator uses the official 2026 tax scale published by the canton to find your exact rate.
Which tax scale should you choose?
| Tax scale | Who it suits |
|---|---|
| A | Single person: unmarried, divorced, separated or widowed |
| B | Married person whose spouse has no income |
| C | Married person whose spouse also has an income, in Switzerland or in France |
| H | Single person living with dependent children |
The number after the letter is the number of dependent children. Your tax scale is shown on your payslip, often as "A0N" or "C1N". The letter N means "no church tax".
Things to know
- Check your payslip: if the tax scale shown does not match your situation, tell your employer.
- The rate depends on that month's salary: a bonus or the 13th-month salary can increase the rate for the month it is paid.
- You can ask for a correction until 31 March of the following year, for example to have expenses taken into account or if you are a quasi-resident.
Frequently asked questions
Is Geneva withholding tax the same for cross-border workers and residents?
Yes, the canton of Geneva uses the same tax scales for people taxed at source, whether they live in France or in Switzerland.
My spouse works in France: which tax scale?
Tax scale C applies to married couples where both spouses have an income, whether that income is earned in Switzerland or abroad.
My spouse works in France: is the tax deducted correct?
With tax scale C, your employer does not know your spouse's salary, so it assumes one. If the real salary is lower, you can ask the canton for a correction by 31 March of the following year at the latest, with proof of your spouse's income.
Is this calculator accurate?
It uses the canton of Geneva's official 2026 tax scale file, for tax scales A, B, C and H without church tax. The actual amount may vary if your salary changes from one month to the next.
